Our Membership Committee has two main priorities:  Greeting and Assimilation/Retention.

Greeting

The Greeting Subcommittee chairperson recruits and organizes greeting teams – one for each Sunday of the month.  The Visitor Desk greeters greet and encourage first-time visitors to sign a New Visitor information sheet. All visitors are given temporary name tags. The greeting team also keeps track of weekly attendance. If you are interested in becoming a Sunday Greeter, please contact Karen Engel.

Assimilation & Retention

The Membership Committee organizes, promotes, and conducts classes to educate prospective new members. The classes introduce visitors to the church and to Unitarian Universalism. Prospective members are also be invited to have a personal visit with the minister. Newcomer classes help visitors and new members get connected and hopefully make them more committed to our church. The classes, including discussions of responsible stewardship, can help them understand that joining a church is a serious commitment.

Following Newcomer classes, visitors are encouraged to sign the Membership book when they are ready.  New-Member Ceremonies are held as needed, but at least twice each year.

Another role of Membership is to help members find ways to get involved, through getting-to-know-you exercises and staying in touch with longer term members.  The Committee also reaches out to those friends and members who haven’t been seen recently.

The Committee provides monthly reports on membership to the Board of Stewards, including names of new members and those being dropped from membership. Updates to the Membership Roll have concluded annually and provided to the Unitarian Universalist Association. Please contact the Membership Committee with any questions or concerns.
