Outreach Activities
Several of Unitarian Universalism’s seven principles propel friends and members of UUCC to reach out beyond our patch of land in Hanover County as well as to each other within UUCC. Leading our outreach efforts outside the church is the Social Action Ministry (SAM). Our Care Committee helps our friends and members during times of need.
SAM’s mission is to put our spirituality into practice. They work as a committee to mobilize the congregation, in part or as a whole, to uphold the principles of worth, dignity, equity, and the interdependence of all life. Their work includes service, education, advocacy, and community organizing. Activities include: organizing and advertising events to the UUCC community, attending SAM-sponsored social action events, legislative action, learning about important social action issues, sales of fair trade coffee and chocolate, a joint project with First Unitarian Universalist Church of Richmond related to Hurricane Katrina recovery, and having fun!
The Care Committee keeps track of UUCC friends and members in need. Offering cards, meals, phone calls of support, child care and visitation, and whatever else is needed, the Care Committee bolsters our congregants during times of sickness, birth, death and any other times when support is necessary.
