Memorial garden with natural stone and daffodils
UUCC offers a lovely wooded memorial garden on our land in Hanover County

Since our members reflect a diversity of beliefs about life and life after death, our memorial services and funerals also reflect this diversity. These services are planned and written with the family members and the minister to reflect the beliefs and values of the remembered person. The community of mourners is often asked to share a memory or story to honor the deceased.  Our memorial services and funerals can be especially touching since they are designed for that particular person, not to reflect a general doctrine or faith tradition.

A memorial service or funeral might include:

  • a eulogy
  • prayer or meditation
  • poems and other readings
  • a time to remember the deceased with stories and memories
  • hymn singing or other music
  • a time for personal reflection.

If you need clergy to perform a memorial or funeral service in the Richmond area, please contact our church office. If you want help choosing meaningful hymns or planning special music for your memorial or funeral service, contact our Director of Music, Jonathan Corey. Singers and instrumentalists from our choirs and music ensembles practice a variety of genres and are prepared to serve in times of mourning and remembrance.
